As the breed gains more interest in the USA, we decided to begin an American breed club, hence the EMDAA was born at the end of 2001. We found that more and more people from the USA were contacting Secretaries and Breeders from all over Europe asking about this wonderful breed, having no one to talk to in their home country. This club is for anyone who has an interest in the Estrela Mountain Dog, whether they are owners or not. If you are interested in joining us please contact our club secretary

Our membership form is here, you can download it, fill it out, and mail it to our Secretary.

You can also send it via email to: tracer (at) traceywashere.com

Our Constitution and By Laws are downloadable

Our Code of Ethics are viewable here and downloadable here

January Dog World Rare Breed Spotlight!

The EMDAA is very excited about the January issue of Dog World as the Estrela is the 'Rare Breed Spotlight' for the month!

The article was very well written; overall we are very happy. For those of you that have read it we have one minor correction -- the Estrela is not a herding dog. Herding dogs have something different in their nature, a prey drive, that a guardian can not possess. While herders make great obedience and agility dogs, a livestock guardian generally does not.

Check out our FAQ page for lots more great information!
